Today’s gift guide is for the the DIYer in your life! The one who considers their home to be a constant work in progress and who can always be found making plans for their next project. As someone who spends a lot of time doing DIY projects, my biggest piece of advice for shopping for your favorite DIYer is to find out what their preferred brand of tools is. Most of the products in this guide are available in multiple other brands as well, so you can purchase the version their favorite brand sells. If you know someone who loves nothing more than tackling a home improvement project, check out the gift guide below for my gift ideas for the DIYer!
Gift Ideas for the DIYer
Cordless Impact Driver – $60
If I could only have one tool, it would absolutely be an impact driver. They’ll use this constantly for everything from hanging heavy art to installing a curtain rod.
Hearing Protection Bluetooth Headphones – $53
In case you didn’t know, power tools are LOUD. These Bluetooth headphones will protect their ears while they work with loud tools, and they can even connect them to their phone to easily listen to music while they work.
Handy Paint Pail – $10
I don’t know why I’ve never used one of these, but it’s absolutely on my list for my next painting project. The Handy Paint Pail will allow them to avoid lugging a heavy paint bucket onto a ladder or bending over every minute to get more paint on their brush. It comes with a handle, so they can simply pour paint in it and easily carry it with them as they paint.
Heavy Duty Utility Knife – $15
A DIYer can never have too many utility knives! I prefer ones that can be opened or closed with one hand – and this one comes at a great price point, too.
Refillable Touch Up Paint Pens – $12
These little touch up paint pens are so genius! Forget the hassle of breaking out the paint brush for the smallest of tasks – just fill these little guys up with the paint of your choice and use them to touch up small areas like chipping corners or nail holes.
Wood Top Workbench – $184
This is the perfect gift for the DIYer who is still doing all their projects on a card table in the garage. It’s sturdy and has adjustable legs, so they can easily adjust it to their preferred height. As an added bonus, it’s not super deep, so can easily be stored on the side of their garage without taking up too much space.
Cordless Brad Nailer – $99
We finally purchased this cordless brad nailer over the summer and I’ve never been so mad that I waited to buy something. This works a million times better than our previous one that had to be used with an air compressor – it’s super user friendly and the price point is great too.
9-Drawer Mobile Workcenter – $288
DIYers tend to have a lot of tools, but also a lot of smaller things like nails, screws, levels, clamps, and more. Help them stay organized with this sleek and functional mobile workcenter – they’ll think of you every time they start a new project!
Auto Lock Tape Measure – $14
Darian swears by this tape measure and I have to admit, it makes me hate every other tape measure I’ve ever owned. It has an auto lock system so it stays in place when you extend it without the need to press a button, and it opens and closes so smoothly.
Wood Grain Step Ladder – $65
They might already have a ladder, but I promise it’s not as pretty as this one! The wood grain on this step ladder makes it stand out from the crowd, and it’s perfect for smaller projects like hanging curtains or reaching the top shelf.
Miter Shears – $30
I wish I had known about these miter shears when we were installing shoe molding in our bedrooms! They’re ideal for cutting chamfer, round molds, pvc strips, molding and more, and the adjustable slider on the scale surface allows for a 45°-135°cutting angle.
Laser Level – $40
If they’re still using an old-fashioned manual level, help them step up their game with a laser level! This is especially great for projects like hanging sconces or symmetrical gallery walls – it eliminates the need for measuring and makes the project go much faster.
Lithium-ion Battery 2-Pack – $79
If you’re looking for a practical gift, find out what their preferred tool brand is and gift them some spare batteries! These will always come in handy and they’ll no longer have to worry about a project coming to a standstill because they had to recharge their batteries.
Paint Shield – $8
I don’t know anyone who enjoys spending hours meticulously applying painter’s tape before painting – and with this paint shield, they won’t have to! They can simply position this under whatever trim or wall they’re painting and it’ll protect the floor or wall underneath it. No painter’s tape needed!
“Cheap Old Houses” Coffee Table Book – $29
They’ll love flipping through the pages of this beautiful coffee book to gather some inspiration for their next project! Cheap Old Houses features the stories of how historic homes were acquired and lovingly restored.
